Wirth Research Group

Multiscale Materials Dynamics: Our group studies radiation effects on materials in nuclear fission and fusion energy environments, high strain rate deformation and the fundamental relationships between microstructure evolution and mechanical behavior

Professor Wirth's research focuses on determining the fundamental mechanisms controlling the effect of irradiation on materials and the relationships between materials structure, properties and performance in metallic alloys. Professor Wirth's research combines computational materials science with advanced analytical experimental techniques in a multiscale and multi-disciplinary approach to investigate materials performance in extreme environments. Additional details can be found in the examples posted on this page.
